My little (big) family are my rock, and I’m so lucky to have them with me through it all.I am from New Zealand! Born and raised in a small town called Rotorua. It's been a while... A lot of my titles are starting out this way.

So, I have a bone to pick, and it's time for another rant. This time it's with bloggers and so-called reviewers.

Oh God, she's going there!?

Damn right I am.

I have been asked, quite a bit lately, for ARC's of Marlin's Faith in exchange for review and have been pretty straightforward and blunt lately with: It ain't never gonna happen.

But, whhhhhy?

Because when you send out 40 ARC's in exchange for reviews to various blogs and reviewers and you get a little more than half the reviews, and it ain't because they're coming back and saying "I didn't like the book and I don't want to leave you a bad review, so I just didn't write one." (Which happens sometimes, I get it.)

What is that worth to me?

Well let's see, $3.99 at the 70% royalty option = $2.74 a copy.

x26 copies given with no return = $71.24 that could have gone into my pantry, paid my cell bill, could have kept my lights burning... yeah.

Let's go one step further, selling my art for words on a page which may or may not sell more of my art.

40 x $2.74= $109.60 or an entire month's worth of the prescription cat food I now have to buy for my geriatric kitty.

I hear of authors sending out hundreds of ARC's and that shit blows my mind. I mean, do they not do the math?

So the next time you ask for an ARC in exchange for review and get told no, or no thank you, I hope that you will be a little more gracious about it, like the ladies I've encountered lately. (Seriously, I <3 you for not being catty, you were disappointed but still vowed to buy the book and that's great.)

Because bottom line, this is now how I am forced to make my living. No day job to fall back on anymore, and quite frankly, that's terrifying.

 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27960203-cutter-s-hope

“Atlas!” I shouted a few minutes after Hope sashayed that sweet, perfectly toned, ass out of my bar. My club’s secretary jogged into the room a half second later.
“Yeah Captain?” he asked.
“Find out everything you can about that girl that was just in here. Said her name was Hope and she’s stayin’ down at the Nautilus,” I said to him but my eyes were fixed on where she’d been.
She was a girl on fire, and I damn sure wanted to know what she wanted with the girl from the picture. I’d recognized her alright. Wasn’t no way I was going to tell that cool drink of water though, not with how that run went straight to hell in so many ways.
“Aye, aye, Captain.”
“Send Tiny back here,” I told him when he turned to tend to the task I’d set him. Atlas gave me a half assed grin and an even sloppier salute. He could tell when I was in a mood and this particular shit show put my mood square in the middle of the black. Tiny didn’t exactly have any fans around these parts and I think the club knew I was reaching the end of the line when it came to my patience with our SAA.
Tiny came in and said, “Wanted to see me Cutter?”
No fucking respect, this one.
“Sit down,” I told him, tone cold. He scowled but complied.
“What’s up?” he asked, crossing his arms over his barrel chest.
“What did I tell you when you came to me about that girl from The Sacred Hearts’ Lake Run, and you told me what you’d done?” I demanded. He scowled.
“Why the hell you bring that up now, Man? That shit’s over and done. It’s been in our rearview over a year now.”
“Answer the fucking question, Tiny,” I grated.
“You said if anyone came looking my ass was on the line and you’d put it to a vote.”
“Put what to a vote?” I demanded. I wanted to fucking make sure we were crystal goddamned clear this time. No mistakes. No fucking up. No Tiny going on his own fucking program.
“My standing as SAA and within the club, period. What the fuck, Man?”
“That’s fucking right, and guess fucking what?” I pointed in the direction of the open bar room door and dropped both feet to the floor, the flip flops slapping loud against the concrete. “Someone, and by the set of her I’d say some sort of LEO, just came looking!”
“Oh Jesus Christ, Man! It’s been over a year, even if she was a fucking cop she ain’t got shit,” he tried to blow it off and I turned my pointing finger to a fist and brought it crashing down on the arm of my chair.
“You don’t get to decide that! Now I kept you on as a favor to Mac but this ain’t his club anymore. It’s mine and you have proven, time and fucking time again that you ain’t interested in falling in line and now you’ve put all of us, every single fucking one of us, in the goddamned hot seat! I told you, consequences, Man.” I crossed my arms while Tiny looked at me poleaxed.
“It ain’t nothing to make this bitch disappear too…”
“Have you learned nothing?” I bellowed, “This isn’t some girl with no family! No, you sit your ass right there.” I pulled my phone out of my cut and dialed Marlin, my VP. He answered on the third ring.
“Yo.”
“Marlin, Cutter, we have ourselves a situation. Get your ass and the rest of the council in here pronto.”
“Can you give me a heads up, Man? How bad is it?”
“No; talk when you all get here.” I hung up. The entire dialogue my eyes were locked with Tiny’s watery blue ones and he looked positively mutinous. He was standing alone on the sentiment. Dumb fucking cunt.
“You’re really blowing this shit out of proportion, Cut.”
“We’ll see what your brothers have to say about that.”

I've been neglectful again, with good reason...

So I've been neglecting the blog again, but I have a good reason, I promise. For one I've been both writing and editing on four projects and more at a time. Crazy right? Well I'm pretty sure this just might kill me, but I can at least give you a status update on each thing I've got going so here we go:

#1 - Cutter's Hope - The Virtues Trilogy Book I

It's written, it's edited, it's formatted, it's DONE and up for pre-order right now.

#2 Biker Chicks - Volume 1

It's written, been edited, has it's cover art, has been formatted for e-book, and is in it's final stages of proofing with the authors before being formatted for print book as well. You can get your copy, as it is up for pre-order, right here.

#3 - There But For The Grace - The Angel's Grace Trilogy Book II

It's written, in editing, cover art has been commissioned and I should see that by the end of this week. We have a target release date of March 8th, 2016 for this one, so keep an eye out for it.

#4 - Omega's Run - The Moonforged Trilogy Book II

It's in the final stages of being written, will go immediately into edits, has it's cover art (obviously) and no target release date as of yet, but it's looking like tail end of winter/beginning of spring. We know you've been waiting a long time for this one, but life happens.

#5 - Marlin's Faith - The Virtue's Book II

It's halfway written with a target release date of sometime early spring, but that's all I have to report on it right now.

#6 - Biker Chicks - Volume 2

Now taking submissions! Please read the guidelines thoroughly and submit accordingly. If you want to submit, and see how the process is going behind the scenes, (it's mostly just a bunch of controlled chaos) then friend request me on Facebook and I'll add you to the Biker Chicks group. (My submission for this one is finished being written and heading into edits.)

#7 - Unnamed Time Travelly Piratey Thing - Stand Alone.

Just finished shaking hands with co-author Eric Plume and taking the time out to do some cursory research with him to make this thing happen. It's starting to come together but we won't be writing on it until the following happens (at least on my end):

1. Omega's Run is finished.
2. Marlin's Faith is finished.
3. A Coup de Grace - Angel's Grace Trilogy Book III is started and finished.
(It will be started by the 2nd week in January.)
4. Charity for Nothing - The Virtues Trilogy Book III is started.

So, as you can see, I'm busy. What's more, is I'm overwhelmed. I am now going to go back to beating my face against my desk and wearing my fingers down to little nubbins. (LOL nubbins. That's a funny word.)

See you guys later.

November ate my brain...

It's another year, and another NaNoWriMo project! Except this year, because I got so behind on other projects, I have three going at once. Not just the NaNoWriMo project it's self. Though I am only counting There But For The Grace, book two in the Angel's Grace trilogy as my NaNoWriMo project, I am actually writing it, Omega's Run with Ryan Kells (the second book in the Moonforged trilogy,) and Marlin's Faith (the second book in the Virtues Trilogy) concurrently.

The visual representation is so neat and pretty compared to the actual chaos that is ensuing in my brain. Adding to the crazy is the first two of these projects are co-written deals with two different people. It makes for interesting and fun times, I'm not even going to lie.  I'm also not going to lie about the fact that I feel like my writing may be suffering just a scotch. However, my co-authors have made no comment on that and one of the reasons I work with them and love them so, is they would be upfront and tell me if they thought I could be, and should be, doing better. At least I like to think they would.

As if three concurrent projects weren't enough on my plate this month, I am also running a weekly Monday day time write-in, co-hosting another weekly Wednesday evening write-in, organizing a post-NaNo workshop for people interested in self-publishing their NaNo projects, organizing Gifts for Geeks in December, and I have started work on the hosting duties of I <Heart> Books with the simultaneous launch party for Biker Chicks, slated for February.

This would be why I have been neglecting my blog, mailing list, Facebook, Pinterest and any other social media outlets I have gone dark on and should be posting to.

Hopefully I will catch up by the end of the month and be able to be somewhat social again between the holidays. Wouldn't that be nice? At any rate. I have pretty much taken enough time away from pouring words onto one of these three projects, so I am going to get back to it.

Much love,

XoXo

A.J.
